About EuroCommerce

EuroCommerce

Established in 1993, EuroCommerce represents the retail, wholesale and international trade sectors in Europe. Its membership includes commerce federations in 31 countries, European and national associations representing specific commerce sectors as well as individual companies.

EuroCommerce has a clear political commitment:

  • EuroCommerce campaigns for free and open markets both within the European Union and worldwide.
  • EuroCommerce stands for sound and fair competition where all actors in commerce have free access to the activities and markets of their choice.

At EuroCommerce we strongly believe that a free and fair environment is also to the advantage of the consumer, since they can benefit from a large selection of products at reasonable prices.

Finally, as an employers' organisation, EuroCommerce is also a recognised social partner and actively engaged in the social dialogue with trade unions.

Commerce

Commerce plays a unique role in the European economy. At least a billion times a day, commerce serves as the link between manufacturers and 490 million consumers across Europe. As a dynamic and labour-intensive sector, it generates 11% of the EU's gross domestic product. One company out of three in Europe is active in the commerce sector. Over 95% of the 6 million companies in commerce are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

In addition, the sector is a major source of employment creation: over 30 million Europeans work in commerce and the sector is one the few that is still steadily creating employment across Europe. It also supports millions of jobs along the length of the supply chain, from small local suppliers to international businesses.
